IAS 10 nói về các sự kiện phát sinh sau ngày khóa sổ kế toán, như các bạn đã biết vấn đề chính của những event này là adjusting or not cho những events này?
1. Concept:

Are those events, both favourable and unfavourable, that occur between the end of the reporting period and the date on which the financial statements are authorized for issue.

Theo định nghĩa trên, các events này phải xảy ra trong khoảng thời gian từ year end đến ngày financial statement được authorize, vấn đề này khá đơn giản nhưng nếu không để ý chúng ta sẽ áp dụng nhầm IAS. Những sự kiện phát sinh sau ngày financial statement được authorize được coi là error, thuộc IAS 8.
Events được chia làm 2 loại: Adjusting events and non-adjusting events
2. Adjusting events:

Those events that provide evidence of conditions that existed at the end of the reporting period.

Chúng ta cần phải để ý ở đây, các events này phải cung cấp thông tin tồn tại at reporting date. Một trong các events điển hình là bán inventory thấp hơn carrying amount, sự kiện này điều chỉnh vì thông tin về inventory này đã tồn tại ở reporting date. Ngoài ra còn các events khác như:
- Insolvency of a customer with a balance owing at the year end
- Amounts received or paid in respect of legal or insurance claims which were in negotiation at the year end
- Determination after the year end of the sale or purchase price of assets sold or purchased before the year end
- Evidence of a permanent diminution in the value of a long-term investment prior to the year end
- Discovery of error or fraud which shows that the financial statements were incorrect
3. Non-adjusting events:

Those that are indicative of conditions that arose after the reporting period –

Ngược lại với adjusting events, non-adjusting events cung cấp thông tin xảy ra sau ngày reporting date. Ví dụ như, một vụ fire xảy ra sau year end, tại ngày year end chưa hề có thông tin về khoản fire này, nên không ảnh hưởng đến financial statement ở thời điểm đó. Ngoài ra còn có các events khác sau:
- Acquisition of, or disposal of, a subsidiary after the year end
- Announcement of a plan to discontinue an operation
- Major purchases and disposals of assets
- Destruction of a production plant by fire after the reporting period
- Announcement or commencing implementation of a major restructuring
- Share transactions after the reporting period
- Litigation commenced after the reporting period

A. A change in tax rate announced after the reporting date, but affecting the current tax liability
